I picked up an 81gs 1000g a couple months back mostly to do the engine over this winter and swap it for the one in my daily rider. my bro has been driving it for about a month now without incident but lately it's been blowing gas and oil out of the breather tube. the previous owner has this tube unhooked from the air box and ran a longer tube back under the seat handy to the rear fender.. It takes a little while for the gas and oil to flow but comes out pretty heavy after the bike gets hot. my manual does'nt go into a lot of detail on this breather hose and I could not find a lot about it with the search. anybody know why this is happening?

If the engine has blow-by past the rings, it will huff and puff all kinds of fuel/oil vapor out the breather. You might want to do a compression check to see what kind of condition the engine is in.

As stated above, do a compression check, if it's low, change out the piston rings, BUT measure the cylinders 1st, it may need a rebore! better to get hold of another set of jugs and pistons and throw the new rings on that if yours is past the service limits....

thanks for the tip about the compression test but it's been done and it's all even across the board at about 120psi. I'm not really leaning towards blow by with these readings. I should have mentioned the readings in my first post I guess

Are the oil separators still under the breather cover on top of the valve cover? They're those little Brillo pad thingys tucked in there. Or that should be tucked in there.

Also, I know this is a radical thought, but why not attach the breather hose to the airbox as Suzuki intended?

Might be valve oil seals then, take off the tank, unbolt the airplane looking top off the camcover (what the breather hose connected to) (you'll need a new gasket when taken off) once the top is off look inside to see what condition the inside is, if it's completely oily, your going have to check your valve seats/seals.
What type of oil are you using in the engine?

Have you changed the oil lately? You may have gas in the oil, which vaporizes and takes some oil with it out that vent.
