    petcock vent hose

can anyone tell me if the petcock vent hose on an 81gs1000gl has anything to do with fuel getting to the #2 carb. Sporadic firing on that cylinder and ignition and compression tests were okay. lots of vacuum on the hose at petcock end too.

If the petcock fails it can dump fuel down the vacuum line and into #2 carb. There is TONS of info about this in the archives so do a search if you need more info.

        Hi,

There's not really anything called a "petcock vent hose". There are two lines, a fuel line and a vacuum line. Have a look here...

        Where Do These Hoses Go?

Thank you for your your indulgence,

          Rebuild Kit

I tried a K&L petcock rebuild kit and had only limited success. Something in the K&L kit is not quite right and the petcock didn't work. Soaked it in carb cleaner and gently cleaned the rubber goods (diaphragm), o-ring, etc. I did use a couple of rubber parts out of the K&L kit and got it working correctly.

Excessive fuel in number 2 can also be caused by the seat and needle in the carb or improper float height. Keep tinking!
