    Coil Test

I just got an 1980 850 GS and it has Dyna S. The coils look origina but it's only firing on 1-4 How do I bench test the coils, anf it's bad where do I purchase new ones ?

Do you have an Ohm meter? Test across the primary side should be 3 ohms. Test across the secondary side should be, I think, 20,000 ohms. Primary is the small screw that connect to wiring harness. Secondary is plug wire to plug wire. If either side is open should read OL on a digital meter the coil is bad.

You can buy new Dyna Coils from Z1Enterprises. I believe you can still buy OEM coils from Babbitt Online, Bike Bandit or your local Suzuki Dealer.

Could be a wiring problem. You could take the wires feeding the coil that does fire and swap them to the coil thats not and see if it then fires telling you the coil is good and the problem is in the wiring or the coil is bad good luck and welcome.

If the Dyna S is already installed, you might as well just go ahead and upgrade to the Dyna coils and wires. Especially if you've still got the original set of coils.
