Will this exhaust fit my 1982 GS1100GL?

    Bike Bandit item 287620

Per my post here, I lost my muffler last week. Looking for just a slip on with a 2.5 OD but having no luck.

This is the closest I've found. Let me know if you have other suggestions.

Photos in signature show her before she lost her pipe :-(

    Thanks!

The pro pipes are race-only unbaffeled pipes. You want the street megaphone. The pro pipe is cheaper due to the lack of baffles and cheaper all around construction and finishing, it will probably interfere with oil and filter changes and probably will require removal of the centerstand as well. It will not fit nearly as well as the street megaphone. Just a cheap straight through race header.

      What about this one

I found this one but I cannot tel if it will ork with a 1982 GS1100GL.

One way to find out is to just buy it I guess...

Are other manufactureres making this or is this the only one?

Still wish I could find just a slip-on muffler...

Please help - I'd really like to get it on order ASAP.

      Thanks,
      -Bob

I do not think that pipe will work. It is listed for an "E" model which is the four valve motor. The V & H 12001-G is what I put on my 81 1000 and the stock pipes are the same between that and my 83 so it should work for you. You can keep the centerstand and access to the oil filter but the rear mount does not match up exactly. I used a muffler hanger to mount mine and it fits fine. Quality pipe IMHO. I would call V & H tech support to verify the fitment.

Sweet. Thanks a lot for finding this. Though I recently got my muffler back I am seriously looking at the V&H V12001-G in case I cannot repack this one: the PO took *everything* out of it!

I would love to find a picture of the V12001-G mounted on a GS1100.

Here ya go, I used a piece of flat automotive muffler hanger with a roughly 1" spacer for the rear bolt. On one end I used the passenger footpeg bolt and the other was the hanger bolt spacer combo. If you have not removed the header before I would suggest hitting the flange bolts with PB blaster for a few days and use anti-sieze on the install. Were the carbs re-jetted for the previous pipe?

Not sure if you saw my posts but I found my muffler after I returned to the scene a second time - it fell off before I hit the freeway and I foudn it near the on ramp.

              As for re-jet

I'm running lean as shown by white plugs so I'm starting to think the carbs were not rej-etted for this pipe. Not that I really know what I'm talking about but from what I've picked up here I have the big racing carb with flat slides and it might not help having the KN pods, too.

The bike runs great 90% of the time except when it's cold it sputters a little bit when I try to hold steady engine speed at around 4000 RPM. Going down the highway above 5000 RPM I have no trouble at all. I got lots of power and can really climb the twisty hills. I would not touch a thing except I am worried a bit about hurting the engine from running lean.

                Tim,

Have you dragged the header at all around any right handers?

What jet size did you step up to?

I've thought about going to a 4-1 on my bike for a little added sound when I'm amongst the cagers on the expressway and was just curious to your thoughts/feelings on the 4-1 mounted on an "L".

I have only one time when I hit a hard bump in a 90 degree corner and I am still not sure if it was the pipe or something else that touched first. I am about 180# and have Progressives front & back.

What jet size did you step up to?
With a K & N filter in the stock box, I am running 42.5 pilots, 120 main, and shimmed the needes with two Radio Shack washers. The mix screws are 1 3/4 or 2 turns out as I recall. Plugs are a bit on the black/grey side but no decell popping and it pulls great through all rev ranges. The 1100's have the same carb set up so that re-jet should get you pretty close IMHO.

I really like the pipe. I even had my "loud pipes save lives" buddy complement me on the "old school sound". It really does not get very loud until you get over 4500 RPM and over 1/2 throttle, after that it really wakes up and starts to sing.
