Can I file down .50 over rings?
I know... I know... but are .50 over rings anything but bigger, longer curved strips? I can get a deal on oversized rings.

I was thinking that shortening the overall length of the rings by adjusting the endgap might allow .50 over rings to work in a stock bore. Times are tight and I'm adding 1/2 a quart every 150-200 miles on average lately. Pretty sure its the rings and not (just) the valve stem seals.
There is one lot of four sets of NOS GS750 .5 over rings on ebay right now for $25
Not actually sure if those are even for the 83-85 bikes but it would have been worth asking if I could have used them.

shorten the ends and compress a ring that makes an oval not a circle
I think this needed some emphasis it was not a stupid question you asked, but c'mon.!
you'd need a hammer to get them in there. and then where would you be.
a half millimeter is a mile in this area.SUZUKI , There is no substitute

Are any of these opinions backed up by facts? I mean it doesn't sound like a good idea, but has anyone actually tried this and seen the results? Maybe it would work just fine.

The exception here I believe is that 1mm OS 850 rings fit a 1000 as they are the same (before anyone goes down that route will somebody back me up or tell me I'm wrong - I'm working from adled memory here)79 GS1000S

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I ask my share of boneheaded questions and a few good ones too. One of these days someone (probably me) is going to figure out there is a search option and find out this info before they f'up their own bike.
Now when can I expect that $600 so I can go out and get my oversize pistions?
