    Petcock Question

First I'd like to thank you guys for helping me out. My bike is running so much smoother, idling nice, and idle returning after driving highway speeds. Sorry if I was a bone head to anyone but all the things finally sunk in and I did some fixing.

I've been considering changing the petcock because I've read it could aid in making the bike run better if it's messing up. But I'm not quite sure that it is. The reserve works fine. I'm pretty sure there is no gas going into the vac line. And it may be me misunderstanding but does prime flow the same amount as on (while the bike is running)? If I've had to prime the bike and forgot to put it back to on after starting the bike it runs like total crap. Some on here have switch to a manual which made me think that prime puts the same amount of fuel in the carbs it just doesn't shut off when the bike is off. So if that is true the bike should run as normal on prime. Just wanting to clear that up. Cause if it's broke it's only going to get worse and I'd just like to get rid of the headache. And I didn't tape good enough when I painted so it sucks to turn it to reserve Should have just taken it off

Biker guy, do you know if the petcock has ever been replaced? Unless you know it has been I would suggest just getting a new one. They are not cheap but a mandatory replacement item for a reliable & safe fuel supply.

Prime flows less fuel than ON, the passage is smaller in diameter.

As far as I know it is factory. I'll put one on order. It's about time to fill up anyway so a good time to change it.

i have just recently taken apart the petcock on my gs.

Behind the lever, there is a cylinder, hollow on the side opposite the lever.

On the edge of teh cylinder are two holes, varying in size. When the bike is in the on position, the big hole is underneath the left side of the filter (looking at the petcock with lever toward you), on reserve, the big hole is underneath the right side of the filter (the clear part). On prime, the small hole is underneath the right side of the filter.

So to answer your question, there is a difference ( i don't know the magnitude but it may be substantial) between the amount of fuel flowing from on, and prime. The flow on prime is smaller than the flow on on (+1 on biker_guy).

BTW i have decided to buy a new OEM petcock, which a lot of people on here do
