What gas mileage do you actually get?
I ride an 82 550L I just replaced the chain and sprockets and am now getting 42-43 MPG pretty consistently. Most information I read online about the bike say it should be getting 50+. Is this realistic? What should my bike realistically be getting in all your experience out there? I use mine for a 40 mile commute everyday so I would like to max out what it is capable of.Tags: None

i have an 85 gs550L and i cant get over 42 so far, my guess is they rated them at 60mph and average interstate speed is 65(70) or higher

52 real mpg on the highway doing 40 miles a day at 70 mph.
It's been doing that for about a year.
When I bought it I was getting mid 30s mpg due to the PO having
messed up the carbs. But a little tuning mostly fixed that.
I was getting 48-50 for a while until I discovered I had misadjusted
the carb float heights. Now those are fixed and its giving low 50s.
I have a small windshield and a Givi topcase and I'm pretty big sized.

We'll see after rebuild, but before I got about 25 mpg mix city and highway. A lot of that probably has to do with my right hand on the throttle. Normal city **** for me is between 4000 and 5000, and a run up to speed on the interstate is shift about 7000 or 8000. If I'm getting on it I've been know to run it to 10,000.

For real, gonzo... if I drive like a sane person, I've gotten about 45.
Unfortunately, I average about 35, but I know my right hand is the only thing to blame for that.

AGain, it depends on my right hand... Ive seen everywhere from 50 ish on my 1100 down to 37... It also has to do with how large of front and rear cogs i have on at the time. Right now im running a 17f/50r and its getting just over 40 or so mixed riding.

Two 750s
Both of mine consistently run 42 mpg when commmuting.
They'll both get into the low 50's with a lot of 4th and 5th gear "back road cruising" i.e. over 50 mph for extended periods.
Doesn't seem to matter how much they're leaningsigpic

My 750 gets 42 mpg on my commute to work, 30 miles one way through the tobacco fields & back roads of rural CT.
The 850 gets 40 mpg.
