that's what I kinda have come to realize. Now the question is... do I restore the clone in all it's clone glory or make a modern retro with gsxr parts?? decisions....

      Looks like a Frankenstein bike.
I could be wrong unless the swingarm is painted.

It's a 78 E model with the aluminum swing arm, aftermarket shocks, race header, some other fairing and paint job.

The only S bike parts are the dash and the side covers. The dash is valuable

        Nice looking bike

        Does it run Okay?

I just looked at your pics again

If that's a Pirelli Phantom tire on the front, don't ride this bike any farther than around the block. That's got to be at least 25 years old

          And post up big pictures

You could sell off the instrument cluster on ebay to help finance the rest of the restoration. I'm not sure how much it's worth but most likely you can get several hundred dollars on top of what it will cost you to put a proper 1000 cluster on the bike.

Good eye Big T!!! Yes that is a Phantom +1 tire on the front, and it isnt rideable. Its not been insured since '88 Definetly a complete tear down in order.

I had them on my blue 78 back in the 80's. Very nice tire for the times

Off to the coin car wash with that thing (take off the dash and side covers first)

You can get a manual on line from BassCliff and that site has most of the basic restoration procedures you'll need

Thanks for the warm welcome and the fast responses on the pictures I posted. When my new shop is built I will get started on this project. Last project bike I had was a 1986 Yamaha RZ500 (kept all the stock parts but...) It had gsxr wheels and forks, OPP Racing fiberglass for a ZX-7RR race bike and a few other little changes, looked really good and was a blast to ride. Had it for 9 years, now sold should have kept it.

Either way you've got a good looking start there and if you keep the same theme it should be a nice ride.

Ya, I think I'll keep the same theme, maybe modernize it a bit as it isn't an original 'S'. It's got the aluminum swing arm, the 'S' dash and I can always get a proper reproduction faring from Airtech. Now for motor work.... A good friend of mine is a Red Seal Certified Tech and a Suzuki guru! time for some power mods. I'll most likely use the GSX-R forks I have from and '86 for it but may go new school front and rear wheels with upside-downs. Oh the possiblities, and not being a rare 4 cyclinder 2 stroke like my last bike, it's WAY easier to change things when there isn't 4 expansion chambers getting in the way! WOO-HOO!!

The stripes under your seat are wrong.Your shocks are correct but your swingarm is not.The side covers look the goods.Tank's wrong and the fairings been cut.I think you've got a clone , but if you have the correct dash ............. ? To my knowledge , the 'S's were only made '79 and '80 .Maybe you've got a wrecked one that has been put back together around a "different" frame ???? You could try checking the engine number to see if that gives you more of an insight. Also a pic of the complete bike might help.Cheers,Simon.
