cheap and bright bulbs for the motorcycle?

does anyone know of any silverstar type headlight bulbs for my bike?

Any cheap places that you have found? I have found them no cheaper than $45 at a local shop or on line and if I get it online then I have to pay shipping so then it is even more than $45.

Yes, an H4 or a 9003. Some say the H4 is a more robust bulb and will stand up to bike use better,
but I use the 9003 in my Wing (OK, so it's more of a 2-wheeled car ) with no problems.
I just changed bulbs last week. Checked my records, the last change was 26825 miles ago, on 3/25/08.
I have two headlight bulbs. When one goes, I figure the other is not far behind, so I change both.

What you definitely want, though, is to STAY AWAY FROM BLUE-TINTED BULBS.
They do NOT make it a "whiter" light, they make it a BLUER light.

By the way, because of Euorpean lighting codes, the Silverstars sold there are clear,
the ones we get here have a slight blue tint. European bulbs are available on eBay, if you search for them.

i used an h-4 silverstar in my 79 750l. i loved the extra light it gave me, but it only lasted about a month and a half. could have just been a fluke. i plan on continuing to use the silverstar for safety reasons (easier to see the deer), until i can find something better. i think i paid about $18.00 at advance for it.

The H4 bulbs come in several wattages, standard & legal is 55/65. I baught a package set of 3 off e-bay, appx. 6 months ago, that were 65/100 for less than $20 including s/h. The higher wattage bulbs are for off road use only, so I presume they are designed to be tougher than regular H4 bulbs. I chose 65/100 so the low beam would be about the same as the regular bulbs & wouldn't blind oncomming traffic, but on high beam I would have a much brighter light. Just my opinion

You must not touch the bulb glass with your bare fingers. The oil in your skin will cause the bulb to have a short life.
Over charging R/R's (too high a voltage in the system) shortens bulb life.
High levels of vibration shorten bulb life. A good carb synch is essential.

yep, grease would do it. Grease kinda has, ahhh ummmm grease in it. lol

You should check your charging system. I would not use rubber gloves, just be carefull not to touch the glass part, if you do clean it with some alochol / paper towel

I put a set of these $5 HF bulbs in my brothers car a few weeks ago:

Blue tinted 55/60 watt bulbs. Not my idea to buy them but he saw the shiny and couldn't pass them up. We installed them out on a dark farm road and I was actually kind of impressed by them. Color temp of the light aside it really seemed like you could see farther down the road by 50ft or so and somewhat further to the sides. Of course this was comparing brand new bulbs against bulbs of unknown age... I'm probably going to buy a set for my car next time I'm there and take some before and after pics of the illumination. Not a bad replacement for a stock bulb in any case. (as long as they last)

Oh, the light didn't look blue or otherwise offensive from the front either.
