I've got the carbs done. See if i can get them back on the bike with air box and cables in the right order. Plan to bench sink. Got my Morgan Carbtune this week. New float via Chef. I hope this goes as easy as the carb rebuild went.

    Don:
The 550 carbs were VM's. Looks like I found a 78-9 550 parts bike, less the motor. This fellow with the 550, bought this bike for the engine. He is mounting it in a riding lawnmower, no blade mind you. Will post pictures some day.

    Thanks all.

Just got the carbs back on the bike. Once I got the float bowls filled with gas it started up fine.

I'm sure there is some little old retired Japanese motorcycle design engineer who is still laughing his arse off about how hard he made it to install the carbs and air box. Tight fit, requiring all my patience. Talk about 10 pounds in a 5 lb. bag.

I bench synched the carbs, and set the one pilot(?) adlustment screw at 2 turns. Set float height to spec. Idels at around 1100 rpms. Took it for a ten mile ride and it scoots now. No bogging down a 5000 rpm. 70mph now, or at least compared to my 450. It runs so good I'm afraid to touch a thing. I don't have anything to compare it to.

I got a Morgan Carbtune to sync carbs and I remember reading the proceedure to to adjust pilot screw. Which do I do first?

Thanks to all. GSResources alone is a good reason to own a GS. Looks like I'll be riding the 650 at the Mt. Shasta Rally. I'm sure my south end will be happier.
