Can you add running lights to the gs450l?
I was wondering if it is possible to make your turn signals always lit up at night like most bigger bikes, or maybe add aftermarket lights to the bike so that I don't only have just the 1 headlight at night. I don't feel that great driving at night with the one headlight only, and just curious if people have done this or know how to?Tags: None

Get three wire front signals, find any always on hot wire in the headlight bucket, split it into two, and there you go.

The charging system on our GS bikes is already taxed pretty hard keeping up so anything you add must be low power. Some of the HID systems put out lots of light and have low power consumption and I've heard of people adding LED lighting since they also put out a lot of light for the power they consume. One other idea is to get a headlamp bulb that has more power on the high beam since you won't need to run high beam all that often. There are ways to add more light but most require some customization and some of them are not cheap.Ed
To measure is to know.

That being said, I just went the opposite direction and replaced my stock 3 wire front signals with 2 wire to get rid of the running lights (for aesthetic reasons).

Hi,
Something I've collected on my website:
Here are a couple of links with guides to help you turn your single-filiment turn signals into dual-filiment running light/blinker combiniations.
Greg Bender - Turn signals as running lights
1157 turn signal mod - BigCee Engineering
Check out this aftermarket turn signal conversion kit from electricalconnection.com:

I think an optimal solution would be to replace the stock turn signal relay with an off-the-shelf electronic blinker relay. Then replace the sockets on the stock turn signals with 1157-type sockets (three wire). Then fill the sockets with Superbright LEDs. The charging system should have no trouble with the LEDs and the LX3 and LX5 LEDs really are bright.
These should give you a few ideas.
Thank you for your indulgence,
