650 CV and 550 VM swap?

Are these a feasable swap? Ive got the gs650, a 1981, and the carbs are off a 550 is what the case said at the salvage yard. If someone could give me a yea or nea, I can go pick them up. Thanks.

If the 550 carbs are VMs off a '79 or older, that would be a big NEA.

Nea for sure. What's wrong with the 650 carbs?

Crap, that sucks, any specific reasons, which vms would work? Not that it's an urgent need, I'm just not a big fan of the cv carbs, something about the diaphram.... Saw these and they looked close enough for government work, so I wanted to check. Thanks for saving me 50 bucks.

Well, so far, running rich and I haven't nailed down why yet. One of my air screws is stripped so I have to drill it out or leave it where it is. No adjustment on the needle heighth. Just not a big fan, so far. I know a little more about dialing in VMs too, so I just wanted to give it a shot, if it was possible. They looked pretty fair shape too. Drat. Jets were at the setting but it's just super rich, fouling plugs. I haven't started the process to rejet it either, so I guess that's the obvious route.

Good news is they have 3-4 sets of CV's to get an air screw from.

          Thanks all.

IIRC, the 80-82 4's all used BS32s, just with different jetting - and the choke linkage changed in 82. Perhaps someone slapped some carbs from a bigger motor on there? Could also be poorly drilled jets from a cheap rebuild kit or leaking o-rings. Have they been cleaned the GSR way? Are all of the cylinders running way rich?
