Stator Cover replacement
I'm having a devil of a time replacing the cover after changing the stator-it keeps getting pulled off center by the magnet. Does anyone have a trick to this? In the midst of it all I'm having difficulty keeping the new gasket aligned while all this is going on.Tags: None

Grease works well to keep the gasket in place, sort of. As for cover alignment, make sure the dowel pins are in place and work to get them engaged with both the engine and the cover. Once they engage, you are home free.Ed
To measure is to know.

Hi,
Yes, you can stick the gasket to the case with some grease. Then you just have to "muscle" the cover back on, trying not to let the magnet pull it out of alignment.
If you have any around, you can use some really long bolts with the heads cut off. Screw 2 or 3 of these bolts into the case and use them to slide the cover on. Then remove the "guide bolts" and install the regular case bolts.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

and if you don't have any bolts like BassCliff mentioned................just some small wood or metal dowels that fit in the holes would suffice.
