If it is one of the one's with the zero oil to the cams syndrome, I won't bother with it.
Also, wouldn't the year help narrow down a parts search or are they all the same?

It is. The 80-82 and 83 "T" model motors are all possibly subject to the oiling problem. The 83 and on 700/750 motors are a complete redesign, look nothing like that motor, and you'd know it wasnt the same if you saw it. Id stay FAR FAR away from that motor/bike if you were looking for something to restore...that thing is nothing short of a money pit, far too much damage, and return value is very small in resale, and its not a bike i would keep as a daily rider with the possible motor issues...

Thank you TCK, that is exactly what I needed to know.
Any problems with the '84 GPZ750's that are known?
        (Got one of those also.)

Probably still handles better than their bikes.
                Definitely looks better.

Of course, they were misguidedly incorrect!

Heh, I'm a Harley owner but I have never set a bike on fire before. How retarded would that be. BUt then again I dont think I'm your typical Harley rider.
But I also gotta tell ya, my 04 has a hard 20k on it without even a hickup.
So in a way, maybe they were almost correct.

Granted 20k aint alot of miles but in my quest for an early Japanese bike I sure have seen a lot of bikes with way less that didnt look or perform very 'low miles'.
Rode hard and put up wet I suppose.

Not trying to start nothing, just saying..
