Oil level after bike has started?

Just started my baby for the first time.

However, I checked the oil level and it just drops to nothing once the engine is running. If I stop the engine, the oil level returns to between low and full (I also added some oil after I noticed this). Is this normal operation, as a result of the oil pump, or is my engine drinking oil? I can't find any leaks for the life of me (save my air filter, which I didn't squeeze out enough and the airbox is not perfectly sealed).

    Thanks in advance, everyone!

I think I'd worry if you still saw a level of oil in the sight glass after the bike was running.
Congrats on getting it on the road!!

That's normal. when the bike is running that oil is being splashed about all over the place and needs a moment or 2 to settle when the motor is stopped.

The procedure for checking oil is to warm the oil a bit, then let it sit for a few minutes, then check the level in the window.

As hampshirehog said, when the engine is running, there is oil EVERYWHERE except in the window.
