Need Air Box Interchange info for GS1100
I have a 1982 GS1100GK in need of a complete air box. I have seen several on ebay that look like mine from different years and models but as yet none of the sellers respond to my questions. Hoping someone out there has some interchange info. The GS1100 carb rubber ID is about 2 inches. There are some numbers near the carb rubbers on the upper air box which read 49070, 49080, 49090. The lower air box is marked with 45100, 45110, 45120. These are Suzuki numbers. I have an 83 GS1100GL which has the same air box and the same numbers. The most common air box I've seen listed on ebay is the 81 GS850GL. The Suzuki catalog lists different part numbers for the complete air box between the 850 and 1100. Don't know what the differences are but they look the same. Can anyone help.Tags: None

I have an spare airbox from a '81 1000GL, the part numbers don't match the 1100 airbox though. And the 850 airbox won't work as is since the 850's used smaller carbs. Sorry.Last edited by Nessism; 08-12-2009, 01:15 AM.Ed

An "L" airbox may or may not work. Very similar, but they may be different enough NOT to work. However, I would think an 850/1000G box will work if you swap the boots out. Dunno if youve ever noticed or not Ed, but the 750 8v 850 and 1000 airboxes are essentially the same. It's even stamped into the box itself which models it will fit...

Welcome to GSR.
I have an extra air box for 1100G that I know is same as on my 82 GK.
It has the intake boots in seemingly good condition.
But here are the bad points:
- is missing the "snorkle" (I got this airbox mostly so I could take the snorkle)
- the seals on the end panels are gone, crumbled to dust.
- and the filter frame (my original one) has homemade seal made out of household door jam insulation. Filter frame doesnt fit too easy in the air box, is hard to install and harder to remove. You will want a new filter/frame. Filter (UNI foam) media is old and blackened. You will want a new one.
- crome end panels are okay, some small rust, not bad.

Two things I can tell you about air filter on 1100G:
- If you get a K&N filter (paper like, about $40), is just the filter media and has to be mounted on the stock filter frame. And my expereince was that then had a big dead-bogg at about 4-5k rpm. (Stock exhaust, stock air box, main jets only 2 size up from stock 115 to 120)

Thanks to all who responded to my info quest. My work has prevented me from checking the forums except for a short stint Thursday night. I have located two air boxes on ebay. One from an 81 GS850GL, very decent and complete. The other an 83 GS1100 box in so so shape. The 850 air box comes with a snorkel that's not deformed or held on with tape and good chrome and is cheaper than the 1100 box. Seller states the dimensions I sent all match. I am unsure about the carb rubbers being the same size. My carb ID rubbers measure 2 inches. I have some conflicting info on the 850 carb rubbers so are the 850 carb rubbers the same or different from the GS1100.Last edited by Guest; 08-15-2009, 01:16 PM.

You could alos try the salvage yard search engines like Mrcycleparts.com or Uneedapart.com. Fill out the form with an email address and anyone nationwide that has one will email you a price. Many of these guys think they have gold or something (high prices) but if you need it you'll pay for it. They'll also do the interchange for you.

I final received my replacment air box for the GS1100GK I'm trying to put on the road. I purchased this off ebay from Pinwalls. I was pleasantly surprised the airbox was in very good condition. Seller had cleaned outside of airbox, then wrapped in plastic, boxed in large box with foam peanuts.
The end cover seals were intack and usable and the carb boots were very pliable and free of age cracks, even the foam air cleaner was usable after cleaning. The snorkle had been duct taped into place sometime in the past. I did not think it was going to be usable but it was in near perfect shape. Guess the PO could not figure out how to reattach so he just taped back into place. The chrome was not pitted or rusted. The only component the airbox did not have was the tube that attaches to the upper part of the box. Fortunatley I was able to salvage this tube from my burnt up airbox. It was also the only part I was able to salvage. My total cost was $40 and about the only way this could have worked out better is if I had gotten it for free.
Thanks to all for the info on the airbox interchange. I was able to avoid buying an GS850 airbox which would interchange but would require purchasing the larger carb boots.
