    What are the chances?

That I could remove the petcock for inspection and put it back on with the old seal and have it not leak?

Seal between the tank & petcock- pretty good. Just make sure both surfaces are clean

They never leak unless the washers or the "O" ring seal is shot. It's not really an O ring but you will see that when you take it apart.

The first time I did that, the seal had zero elasticity. Had to get a new one. Also, the mount screws didn't have the sealing washers. It leaked like crazy after I disturbed it.
