    Drivin' me crazee!!

    I've just joined the gs resources site today,it's the best, i've gotten lots of useful info, thanks to all, especially basscliff,anywho my dumb-a** question is....i have a 1982 gs 750 e with 15,00 miles on it that i bought in january 2008 from a guy down the street for 600 buckeroos!! What a steal! Clean as a whistle! New tires,exhaust,battery, starts and runs like a champ. One problem, the accelerator cable was replaced, i turn the handlebars to the right and it revs to 8,00 rpms. I cleared the cable of all snags. Had it workin' good till memorial day weekend when i made sharp right turn,goin' slowly thank God, it revved and fishtailed out sending me to the pavement. Mostly road rash and cosmetics,i'm ok. I've narrowed it , down the carburator slide not going all the way down when i let off the throttle, i've tried everything including looking for the thumb screw, there ain't one.what the heck do i do? Thanx to y'all.

    Find the adjustment for the throttle cable, shorten the outer cable so the inner has a little bit of slack with the throttle closed, you should here a loud "Clack" when you release the throttle... There's one threaded adjuster where the cable comes out of the throttle grip, there may be another along the cable somewhere and another where it connects to the carb rack. Check that the cable is routed correctly as per the manual. Put the bike on the centerstand and test it, swing the handlebars both ways while it idles, the RPM should not change.

        You may also want to check the clamps that go around the boots from carb to airbox. When I put my 850 back together this spring, one of the screws holding the clamp on would "snag" the throttle cable and hold RPMs. Just something to check.
