can you clean oil sight glass?
I can't see anything but brown through my sight glass, can you clean this so that I can know how much oil I have? Thanks.Tags: None

If you remove the cover from the engine, you can pray some carburetor cleaner on the inside of the sight glass, and it'll usually clean up fine.
I don't know how you'd clean it without removing the cover, other than maybe dumping some Seafoam in the crankcase and running it for ten-twenty miles before changing the oil.sigpic

I cleaned mine with a q-tip. Cover off, obviously. I was nervous about spraying carb cleaner on it because the glass is seated in a rubber grommet, and I didn't want to risk dissolving it or something. Anyhow, the goo inside the glass wiped off much more easily than I thought it would.
I'd be curious to know if Sea Foam could clean that.Dogma

Many, many, many years ago, while draining the oil, I just bent the extension straw that comes with a can of carb cleaner to make
a right turn at the end and a slight turn half way down and just sprayed the area from the oil fill hole.
Did I just get lucky or do something wrong?

You can also try adding what the can says of Seafoam about 200 miles or so before each oil change. May not clean it first time but by the second it should be much cleaner.
