front wheel and brakes on 1981 GS850G
I recently rebuilt the front brake calipers and tried to remount them. I put the left on first, mounted the wheel, per the schematic in the manual. When I try to remount the right caliper I cannot get it to mount as the inside aspect of the caliper rubs on the right disc. I rebuilt the front by taking off the left caliper, mounted the right caliper and then the wheel. I was able to get the left caliper on, but when I try to rotate the wheel the right disc rubs on the inside of the right caliper. I am sure I am doing something really stupid, but would appreciate any help. I tried the "search" but found little and have consulted with the "front wheel removal" in the garage section.Tags: None

Hi Mr. ardbeglily,
Did you take off the front wheel at the same time? If so, did you put the spacers back in the proper orientation? Could there be something in the bore that's not allowing the piston to move all the way back? Are you using EBC FA51 pads (or equivalent) up front? Are the shim pads and guide pads installed properly? I've got lots of pictures in a couple of guides on my website. Have a look if you think it might help.

thank you BassCliff
Thank you and I hope you are feeling better. I used EBC pads and everything looks like it does in all the pictorials on your site. When I mount the calipers separately they work fine but when I mount both, the right disc rubs against the actual caliper body. I will pul it all apart again on my next day off and start again. Thank you again.:confused

You have the spacers in wrong -- very likely there's one spacer that's backwards.
Look very, very carefully at the parts diagram in your manual or online.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

cruz del sur, you can look at Z1 Enterprises, Bike Bandit or Sportland for the parts you need. It is pretty easy to do, just take your time and put everything back as you found it. The search feature on here is good but you have to be very specific. The members are also extremely helpful and have always answered my questions promptly.
I did get my front wheel and both calipers back on by playing with the spacers, but the schematics look wrong. The ridge on the outer spacer on the right side looks like it should be on the outside, but it actually works by going on the inside closest to the wheel. Thanks for all the help guys.
