    cam swap for my '80 GS750 et, maybe engine too...

    I've got a 1980 GS 750 et (16 valve) and I'm fairly certain I need new camshaft(s) does anyone know which cams from other/newer models work with this engine, or where I can find a cross reference/spec swap chart? Also, a friend has a suzuki 1100cc motorcycle that had a carb fire , I'll have to find out model and year , but will an 1100cc engine or cam work in my 750? Any input would be appreciated...brief story how it happened......While coming back form a weekend get-together I had an apparent needle valve malfunction and turned my oil into something like 2-stroke pre-mix while cranking down I-75. I thought my fuel gauge was malfunctioning until I started popping out the exhaust, then rapidly lost power just south of Detroit where I took the nearest off ramp and found my oil level was WAY up and it reeked of gasoline... that was this morning , so I'll be into it by the weekend...yes carb re-build is in the works to

    The 1100 cams will drop in. Those second generation 750's definitely have oiling system problems so you aren't the first to loose a set of cams. Before you go down the road to gather cam/rocker parts you should check out the head itself. When the cam's don't get enough lubrication the head is usually damaged because it's mad aluminum.

        Thanks,I'll be into it to check the head by Wednesday. I don't think the oil delivery was the problem so much as the lack of viscocity....at least the system will be cleaned out from all the gas in it :-P. That thread had some good info...much appreciated
        As far as dropping in the 1100, I've got to measure it to see if it will fit in the 750 frame and still keep everything in line with the rear sprocket, then I'm gonna see if I can get it to run...if not I'll just rob the cams out of it ( assuming the 750 heads are still usable )....but if it does run I'll have one hot little number in this 750 frame!!!

          it fits fine.... all will line up. you need to fab the bottom engine mounts only. if i recall you'll need to use the 11's mounts in the 7 frame.

            Good to know Sparki, I'll be able to get a good look at the 1100 this weekend, my friend couldn't recall what year it was , "maybe 80's or early 90's" , so I'll be checking that out to ( should still be readable on the frame tag )

              Just found out the 1100 is a 1984 GS1100GK big cruiser type, but it has a SHAFT DRIVE!! Since the shaft is an integral part of the swing arm ( and I prefer chain drive ) I'll need to find a way to convert the output shaft to a sprocket and chain.....I'm going to have to search the archives for some help on this one!
