    crank case? 85 gs700

To start off I have a gs700e 1985. When I bought the bike I noticed some one had took off the magneto cover at some point, and instead of putting a new gasket on it, they used a rtv silicon gasket maker, and loaded it on there. It was sticking out all the way around and just looked like crap so I bought a new gasket and decided to change it when I changed the oil. While doing so, I found that there was a broken bolt on the bottom of the cover, and looks like they made a real bad attempt to drill it out, and the only way I see to repair it would be to weld it up and drill and tap a new hole. Also there was another bolt on the lower crank case that had some JB weld were maybe they tryed to put a bolt that was to long in it and broke the case. So my question is, I found a used lower crank case on ebay, how hard would it be to replace, should it match up, and what all will I need to replace while I have it a part, as far as seals, gaskets, and what ever else.

A bit hard to understand from your explanation, but do you mean just the bottom half of a crankcase on EBAY or the whole crankcase including both upper and lower sections.
You cannot use two crankcase halves off different motors. The two crankcase halves are assembled then line bored for the different shafts to fit into them. Things will be out of alignment if you use two different crankcase halves bolted together.
    Hope this helps.

Yup, crankcase half's are a matching pair; you should not separate them.

BTW, there is a member here selling a lower end from a 700 in the Parts For Sale forum. Your luck day.

Its just the lower half on ebay. Thanks Nessism Ill have to look in to that lower half. So if I get a set I can still use all my internals?

Sorry for any confusion created by my response. Just to clarify, the crankcase half’s are machined together as a matching pair so you should not attempt to replace just “the lower half” since this won’t work, or is unlikely to work. Either get a new set of crankcase pieces or replace the entire lower end – which would be easier still.
