Gas tank sealing. I need an idea.

I received my Caswell's kit and read the directions fully. I sealed the tank and poured a pint of acetone in it to get rid of the previous treatment. It softened to a thick glue consistency but didn't come out of the tank. So, I threw a handful of drywall screws into the tank along with another pint of acetone and shook and turned for 20 minutes.
I removed the seal and poured out the acetone and retrieved 5 out of 2 dozen drywall screws. The goo hardened right back up and has trapped the rest of the screws inside the tank. The acetone isn't doing the job so can anyone offer up a suggestion based on experience. I'm really trying to save the paint on the tank while I'm at it.

High strength paint stripper and aquarium rocks. It will take several applications of the stripper but it will take off the Kreem (I assume) that's in the tank. Just make sure you crack open a vent on the tank every so often to keep pressure from building up inside the tank. I didn't do this and my tank pooched out some.

AN ugly way to approach this would be sandblasting the inside of the tank at low pressure. I've done it and it works but you need to keep the pressure low and dump the wreckage out every few minutes.

Those expensive NOS tanks on ebay that come up once in a while start looking real good after a while, eh?

You may want to try MEK instead of the acetone. If you can get methylene chloride that may also be an option.
