IKON Spring & Damper - Revisited

    Hi all,
I've read a gazillion posts on GS shocks.
Like the idea of adjustable damping, so investigated the IKON.

Dave from IKON quoted the 7610-1394 @ 12.8" free length & 11.2" min length.

Checked my original spring/dampers and swingarm/frame.
Stock assembly free length is ~12.75", so the IKON is a good match there.
The exposed shaft length, between the bump stop and stock damper, is ~2.75".

It looks like the IKON is short a full inch of travel.

Is anybody running these IKON shocks??

I have KONI 7610Ps on my1000S. Theywere the closest to the shockers plus they didn't cost both arms and a leg to buy. they worked great. have you actually removed the stock springs and compressed the shock to make a measurement?

Yeah I know Dan - I've had a few bits off him and his prices (and service) usually kills a lot of our guys. And US postmen must pedal faster than ours as well!

Joe Nardy and I both run Ikons and we both love them. We ordered them 13.5" long (that’s the longest they can do) and the extra length real helped wake up the steering and make the bike more nimble. I would highly recommend these shocks to anyone. I think they are a better product then the progressive shocks, you basically get what you pay for.

I have not had trouble with the reduced travel, you are going to be getting stiffer springs matching your weight so the event of bottoming out is less likely to happen unless you are over loaded. If you do do your back shocks make sure to repalce your front springs with some progressive springs for the front. then you will really like how the bike feels.

                  Longer shocks?

                  Thanks all.

First Timer, the 13.5" would seem to put the swing arm in very close proximity to the side frame tubes, where the rear pegs are mounted.

What does that clearance look like when your bike is on the center stand?
What is the travel on the 13.5" IKON's?

I'm doing a full frame-off restore, and yes I've done the front Progressive springs. I was about to buy the IKON's, but the stroke concerns me.

                  -Russ

Edit: Just looked at the picture in the Z1 ad, and it sure looks like the stroke would be longer than 1.6".
                  (Great price too!)
Maybe I received bad data from Dave.

They do up to 14.25" now eye to eye & 14.33" Eye to Clevis (look under Honda) at least cause Jeff has them....

I just put a set of Koni's on my 1000G - springs were a little soft & no damping adjustment on them but with max preload they are working great.

I have no idea what the travel is and don't plan on pulling the springs to find out. It has not been an issue yet. Why are you so concerned with travel unless you are planning off road adventures? I had some interference problems as first on my 1000 but that was because I was running a 1100 swing arm which is wider. I fixed that by pulling the swing arm and using a scissor jack to gently push the foot pegs apart until I had enough clearance for the swing arm to clear.

The travel on the ones I just fitted was approximately the same as stock....

I think a typo is far more likely than travel that insanely short.
