    Fuel in my Oil?!?!?!?!

okay well, i've had a problem for a while where some fuel would leak onto my starter from the carb. i thought it was a floatbowl that had started leaking but i came to find out that my peacock was assembled wrong so the diaphram which shuts off the fuel flow to the carbs wouldnt close. i reassembled it correctly and now that problem is gone (for good i hope) but after putting the tank back on and starting her up i saw that fuel was pouring out of my breather tube (at an alarming rate). so my thoughts are that somehow fuel got into my crankcase and into my oil. how is that possible? and how should i go about correcting this problem? BYT the peacock is working perfectly and the carbs do not leak one bit. thank you.

Did you change the oil after fixing your petcock?

You probably have been dumping fuel into your crankcase via your bad petcock for some time now. I had a faulty petcock a while back and had the same problem. Although your petcock is now fixed and your carbs aren't leaking you still have to get rid of the contaminated oil from before it was fixed.

It is a petcock, not a peacock, although I somehow like your version.

You almost certainly have a problem with floats sticking or the seats in the bowls are not mating well enough to close off the fuel flow.

      FIX IT BEFORE DRIVING.....

You do NOT want fuel leaking onto a hot engine ...or anywhere else, for that matter. This is a very high risk fire concern.

      Edit:

Yes, fuel can easily get into the crankcase with the described problem. If fuel is coming out of the breather tube then it is certainly elsewhere and, just like water, it flows downward.

Verify the petcock connection AND that it is working correctly.

        Fuel in starter

dude, check the vacuum hose and gas line from the petcock and make sure their not reversed. I made the mistake of switching them once and somehow fuel went into the starter housing.

I was thinking exactly that when I said to check and verify the petcock connections, but your explanation is better.

would the oil effect my gaskets? or do i just need to change the oil? and should i change the oil filter? everything is fine with the fuel lines and carbs and starter, its just the fuel in my oil that had me worried. i'll post back if i run into another problem or if the oil change did the trick. thanx everyone

well i am happy to say that after changing the oil and filter, the old girl is running strong once again. i even gained a small boost on the acceleration. i gotta say when i drained the oil and removed the filter, the smell of gasoline filled the air. i didnt realize how much oil had been replaced with fuel. luckily everything worked out for the best. the new oil is in and the new filter is filtering smoothly. and on top of that, NO MORE LEAKY PEACOCK. Thank the lord
