    Help, High idle GS850GL

    Hey all,
Well, I thought I was finally buttoning up my valve adjustment, and all ready to give it a test run....BUT......On starting, choke, no chock it is idling steady at 5000 RPM's. Idle adjuster does nothing, 10 turns out?? Here is the history, bike ran OK, but rough just two weeks ago, probably due to pods. I ran it for a year and a half with pods, and once warmed up ran fine. Anyway, I decided to do all the major work, new o-rings, air box back on, adjusted valves, put in proper plugs, (had one up cold). I have checked for kinked cable, it is good, carbs are fully closed......So any ideas??? Would going back to the airbox, throw the carbs that far off? Pleas help......Thanks

Adjusting the idle speed with the knob will have no effect if your throttle cable is adjusted too tight.

I know you say the carbs are closing completely, but how do you know?

Were the carbs re-jetted for the pods?

Were they re-re-jetted for the airbox?

Did you replace the intake boot O-rings? How many turns out are the idle mixture screws? Sounds like a massive air leak.

        EMBARASSING MOMENT,
        Thanks Steve,
That was it exactly, While checking everything, I saw that I forgot to tighten the throttle cable nut at the carbs, after I removed them to install o-rings. I tightened the top one down, which opened the carbs, I should have tightened the bottom one. Needless to say, once loosened it solved everything. I have to say that now it runs SSSSWWWWEEEETTTT. Once I get the carbs Synched it should be a raped ape.....you guys are the bomb, and sorry to bother you. By the way, no jetting was ever accomplished either time.
