New small directionals, dont blink. Need resistor?
I recently added small flushmount turn signals to my gs but they dont flash. I put my old stock turns back on and they work fine. I'm sure I have them wired correctly. The new turns aren't very bright so I'm thinkin maybe I need to add a resistor to the circuit. Im pretty dumb about electronics so I apologize if that sounds stupid. Any thoughts?Tags: None

More than likely you do. I'm having an issue with some small aftermarket stalks, but I believe it's related to the flasher unit. One side works, the other doesn't. Go figure, 28 year old part quit working.

Here is one thought:
If they are not very bright, that means they probably don't draw enough current to activate the thermal flasher. You can add load resistors or get an electronic flasher that does not care what kind of load there is.
Here is another thought:
You mentioned that it's on a GS, but which one? If you have self-cancelling signals, the electronic flasher will not self-cancel, but adding the resistor should keep them intact.
Yet another thought:
If the signals are not that bright, why bother? If you are trying to keep some semblance of legality, all an officer has to do is to look for the DOT stamp on the lens. In your case, I really doubt it's there.

Haha yes non-dot they are. Im choosing looks over safety/lagality here. I know, I know... But hey, I dont have achain guard, fenders, gauges, or mirrors so why stop now? I made a fiberglass seat for my gs450 and the flushmounts just look too good on there. Im gonna run to radioshack in a minute. Any suggestions on ohms? I was thinkin maybe 5ohms...

Do basscliff's electronic flasher mod, and be done with it. I had the same problem with some new small bullet lights I installed on my bike. They would stay lit up, and not flash. New electronic flasher installed and they blink immediately and consistently, not to mention more reliable too.

Any auto parts store or Wal Mart should carry the flasher you need, and I don't recall any 450s having self-cancelling signals, so no worries there.sigpic

Just wanted to write a follow up post with y results. I purchased a 2 prong flasher fromadvanced auto for about $9.50. It plugged directly into the connector for the stock flasher. No muss, no fuss! And it looks good next to the lawn tractor solenoid!
Thanks guys,
