A local bike mechanic told me there was one pin on the factory welded cranks, that WAS NOT welded. He said the factory didn't weld the pin at the primary gear. Ray, can I trust this guy, or is he full of hot air???1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100

My understanding is that the factory welded part way around on the crank pins where the rods are - a weld job after the crank was assembled. Not sure if all were covered or not. When a crank is welded for racing the amount of welding is more extensive but I don't know all the details; I've seen photos of where the main bearing pins are welded and the drive gear as well. Sorry I don't know more, have to wait for the experts.
Edit: found these photos from First timers thread...
This photo came from a different thread and shows the factory welding... http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...t=welded+crank
