    Turn Signal Switch Removal

    Morning,
    I am unable to remove the turn signal switch button (hat) so I can clean and regrease the contacts. I think I have corrosion in this area.
    I was unable to find any posts on this, and don't wish to break the thing off.

    I recently went through this as well and gave up. Took some plastic safe contact cleaner and sprayed the crap out of the switch. Seems to be working but taking the switch apart would be a proper repair...only I was afraid of breaking off the knob (hat) just like you.

      i broke mine down as far as i could go and sprayed plastic proof lubricant inside and it worked like a charm.

          You do it from the inside...the button is actually the last thing you take off after taking all the internals out.
          Be careful though...springs and balls and things go shooting out...
          Ask me how I know...

          And ask Joe Nardy what happens if you try to take the button off from the outside...

              Others have learned that, as well. Including me.

              Here is a really simple trick I learned because of that (I have also posted it a few times) :


              The best way to work on A N Y Suzuki switch it is to first get a large, clear, plastic bag...like the type dry cleaners use....., and put the switch and tools inside the bag BEFORE working on it.

              If you have to put one end over handlebars, then tape that end securely before you begin the work.

              Put your hands inside and do the work...you can see what you are doing and all the tiny parts will remain where they can be found.

                Mmm, a bag. Smarter person than I.
                Get this. I took the switch off and removed the metal inner mount. By this time the kids were ready for bed and I didn't have time to do anything else for the evening.
                Next morning, I rush to put everything back together and voila, the R turn signal works again. Off to work I go.
                Not going to touch it untill it stops working or when I re-wire the bike.

                  I lost a spring or something out of one of mine and the stupid thing doesn't work right now. I bought one off a bandit to replace the whole damn thing! the turn signals never worked correctly anyway

                    Epoxy coating on the garage floor helps too... However when I did mine it was on an oil stained garage floor with poor lighting.

                    Well no lost pieces.. wheew

                    The only thing I can add to this is if you think you failed putting it back together because it still feels too tight relax... Once you get it back together your thumb has way more levrage and operates normally.

                      What happens is that you break the tabs that hold the switch knob in place. Then you discover that the knob isn't listed separately on Suzuki's parts fiche, you have to buy the whole switch assembly for about $100. Then you post on the GSR asking if anyone happens to have one. Within about 30 minutes some really nice guy who lives about 15 minutes from your house posts that he has one. You go pick it up and spend the next couple hours figuring out how all the little pieces go back together.................No worries!
