    What is an r/r?

I see them refered to often, but not sure what it stands for. Will i need to replace mine eventually?

R/R generally refers to regulator/rectifier, it's part of the charging system on our bikes.

As for replacement? It's fairly likely that you will need to replace it eventually, but every bike is different. You can read through these pages for more information on the charging system and how it works if you are so inclined

RR stands for Regulator Rectifier. It takes the AC generated by a device called a stator located in the left side engine cover and Rectifies it to DC then Regulates it to around 14 volts or so. Some early GS bikes had a separate Rectifier and Regulator, now these two are combined into one unit.

The GS is famous for having weak RRs and causing problems related to failure. A search of the GS resources will yield a lot of stories about RRs.
1981 GS650G , all the bike you need
1980 GS1000G Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely

also, FYI...so everyone knows....if you need a replacement, Duaneage will take care of you. You can scour e-bay, wrecks, etc... to match up something cheap and take your chances, or just get a good Honda replacement for a very reasonable price from Duaneage! I bought 3 from him with no problems and wired up ready to install with no issues.
