    New clutch break in.

    Hey guys curious on how To properly break in a motorcycle clutch. I know with cars you have to drive easily for the first 1k miles but I'm unsure of what to do with my GS750. I'm replacing my contact disks and springs tommorow but unsure what oil to run and how to ride the bike. I generally run full synthetic 10w-50 but I know when it comes to any new engine parts(ex engine rebuilds) you have to break in the motor w/ conventional. Is this true with the new clutch?I've worked on cars for a better part of a decade but am preety niave about bikes. So do I run conventional? And if so for how long?
    Thanks guys I searched this but coulden't find anything on breaking in the clutch.

    I don't think you need to follow any special procedure to break in a clutch, just drive as normal. You might want to forgo any drag racing starts for a short period of time but that's the only thing I can think of.

    Regarding synthetic oil and clutches, as long as the oil is not labeled as "energy conserving" you have no reason to worry.

      I'm still surprised at how many people think that the GS's are okay with synth. Nessism gives great advice. Check the label on the bottle. And, as always, try to keep the mileage between oil changes to 2K or less.

        Sweet I just changed my oil less then 1k miles ago I didn't want to waste that synthetic... It ain't cheap.

          One thing you will want to do is soak the fibers in oil for a few hours before installing.

          The steel plates will have a rounded edge and a sharp edge, it does not matter which way you install them as long as all the steels are facing the same way. Either all with rounded edge out, or in.

          As for the break in, you should do about 3 hard launches, then ride the bike as you would normally ride.

            Awesome thanks for the input!
            I got the disks today and plan on soaking them overnight so I can start the project first thing tommorow. Got fresh 10w-40 in the garage so soaking starts soon.
            As for the synthetic on average I get another 3-5mpg every fill since I swapped to full synthetic. I knew a few bike guys that claimed to drop a couple tenths of a second off their 1/4 times with it... Regardless I use it cause I've observed it's less prone to burning the the conventional. 1k miles in and it still the same color as when I poured it in... Can't say that about the conventional....

                This is very strange since synthetic oil does NOT reduce friction in the engine. What do you attribute these results to?
