1100E oil temp gauge, bouncing, fluctuating

82 1100E - recently had the instrument cluster and headlight shell gently laid down on the front fender while I worked on the ignition switch.

After putting everything back together my temp gauge bounces around instead of being steady and well damped. (still reads correct temp as bike warms up)

Anyone know what I did? Is this liquid filled? Did I screw it up by maybe inverting the cluster as I was removing it? Solution?

    Thanks.

it would be nice to know; all my guages seem to be sensitive to road vibration and bounce.

hmmm, interesting. My gauge was absolutely rock steady until I took the cluster off.

Another thing that changed... now when I turn ignition off, temp gauge drops like a rock, didn't do that before.
