Thanks for the words of confidence Ray, thats pretty much what I thought but wasnt 100% sure.
Again for I want to do (turbo) I am going to need to tear it down and fully inspect and rebuild any way.

Ray - I assume you do crank work as far as truing and welding??? I may be contacting you this winter for a little work, right now I am just gathering parts.

Thanks for all the comments guys I appreciate it.

Earl, the 80, 81, & 82s till late in the run ALL had small left ends (25mm vs 29mm ) on the cranks. Ray.

I thought that some 82s had the 20 bolt valve cover too .. wonder if they changed that at the same time ?

I believe it was the 850s that changed mid-year in 1982. The early ones had 16 bolts, the later ones had 19.

Thanks Steve .. but I don't think I would know that anyhow.

Just a misfire on my part I suppose.

Thats all I can help with, or at least thats what my engine has.

                    X is the code for 81, so maybe 82 = D, 83 = E ??

my 82 gs1100ez has "GS110X" on it aswell
                    its the 16valve motor

If you're building a turbo, make sure that you convert the crank and clutch basket to straight-cut gears. Your crank builder should know about this. The stock angle-cut gears are really pushing it with just an 1166 kit, so for a turbo it would be crazy to leave them on.
