1983 Suzuki GS650 turn signal problem

Ok i just bought this bike less then a week ago for $500. pretty good deal. there were some fuse/wiring jiggling needed but i got everything mechanical and electrical to work except one thing. The turn signals. Im at a lost now. Ive replaced all 5 fuses just in case. I tried tracing wires from the turn signals but i lose the wires. I tried taking the headlight off so i could follow the wires better but one of the screws are rusted on the headlight (how can i loosen the rust??). None of the turn signals work. The bulbs look fine/brand new. i dont get whats wrong. Can ANYONE help me with my issue here? Thanks in advance!

Do they illuminate at all? Or do they illuminate and not flash?

        Greetings and Salutations!!

        Hi Mr. Cody252,

I would start by cleaning every electrical connection and ground on the entire wiring harness, including the fusebox, ignition switch, and control switches on the handlebars. You'll be glad you did. Download a factory manual from my website. There should be some troubleshooting procedures in there. Check my website for my turn signal relay replacement guide, just in case yours is bad and you don't want to use an OEM part. Now I'll just say "Hi"...

Here is your very own magical, mystical, mythical, mind-expanding "mega-welcome". Please take notice of the "Top 10 Common Issues", the Carb Rebuild Series, and the Stator Papers. Now let me roll out the welcome mat for you...

Please click here for your mega-welcome, chock full of tips, suggestions, links to vendors, and other information. Then feel free to visit my little BikeCliff website where I've been collecting the wisdom of this generous community. Don't forget, we like pictures! Not you, your bike!

Try removing the flasher and jumpering the wires. The turn signals should light with it like this but not flash (obviously). If they light with it like this, you have a bad flasher. If not, you need to check all of the connectors and switches in the circuit until you find where the problem is.

I have an 81 gs650. I agree with the guys check the relay. Never hurts to check all your bulbs either...... Also do it the Basscliff way and clean all your grounds, connections and fuse block you'll be one happy camper down the road.

Hi, I had a similar problem, except I had no turn signals. After trying for a few days I realized that after having found out which wire was for left and right, I still could not get them to flash. I checked the groound and all were good. I then tried to connect the rear and try there, and still nothing. I was about to go inside when I decided to connect both front and rear, and poof they worked. It was deff a noob move, but I hope this helps. Check all connections, and relay. Mike
