    killing the battery???

Ok...here it is... I have a 1982 GS1100L. after getting awsome info here it runs great!!!! Thanks for the help.. Now after returning home from a ride the other day, my dumbass forgot to turn the key off and it killed the battery. I tried to jumpstart the bike. The main 15amp fuse blew. I changed it and didnt try that again. I charged the battery overnight and then fired her up. I thought i was good until The bike died 60 miles from home. Battery was dead and would not even click. A really nice motorist stopped to help. I went to the local Wal-Mart and got another Battery and it started rite up. I drove the bike to my x-wifes and threw a charger on it. Now both these batteries are brand new but after about a half hour or so the bike drains them and it will not run. The bike is 28yro. what it creation could be doing this??? A bad RR? or Stator? I havnt blown anymore fuses but its now killing batteries. WTF. any ideas how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance!!!

Was the car you jumped it from running at the time?
