Bike jumps when put into first...
My bike has started to jump when put into first.. and sometime has a hard time getting into second. its not the clutch cable as i have adjusted it with no effect also tried to adjustment screw on the push rod and again still the same thing... i plan to overhaul it this winter but wonder if anyone has had any experience with this same problem...Tags: None

When was the last time you changed your oil? Dirty oil will cause the clutch plates to stick together. Does it do this just when it's cold or all the time?

this hapens all the time it doesn't depend on the weather.. i'm using fresh 10w40 and have bran new chain and sprockets.. i have narrowed it down to something internal but not sure what to look for...

Your clutch basket nut may be loose, if it is, you'll hear noises coming from that area when it's running. With a loose clutch basket it won't fully release when pulling in the lever.

thanks i'll have to keep that in mind once i get it apart... it only jumps for a second tho while going into 1st gear from nutral. after that the clutch won't engage untill i let off the lever.. also it doesn't want to downshift smoothly into first.. got to really ease it in there once my rpm and speed is down...

The problems sounds like excessive drag in the clutch. Could be many issues including warped clutch plates, loose clutch hub nut, grooves in the basket keeping the clutch plates from moving smoothly, and other things I'm sure.Ed
