    Left Controls

From what I can tell, there are 3 left control styles for our GSs.

    Style 1: The horn button.
The horn is a round button, a four directional switch signals left and right, as well as toggles between high and low beam.

    Style 2: The horn lever.
Same as above, but the horn button looks more like a lever.

    Style 3: Independent.
The left and right signals are seperate from hi/lo beams. There is also an on/off switch for the lights.

    Style 1 uses 2 connectors, a 9 pin, and a 3 prong.
    Style 2 uses 1 connector, a 9 pin.
    Style 3 uses 1 connector, a 12 pin.

I imagine style 3 is on the earlier bikes, then when government wanted day time running lights, switches to style 1, then when the horn buttons kept busting off, switched to style 2.

Are any of these interchangeable with simple modification?
I have a Style 1, which I'm looking to replace, but they seem to be the rarest (on ebay anyways).

Attached is style 1: Horn button.

The way I understand the controls, the independant ones (your #3) were on about all the bikes up through 1979. Both of your other ones in the pictures are from 1982 and up, because they have the 'choke' lever under the controls. In '80 and '81, they had the 'choke' knob in the center of the steering stem. It's kinda hard to tell, but your #1 might have the word AUTO in the upper corner, showing that the bike had auto-cancelling turn signals. The control in #2 does not show that word, so probably came from one of the smaller bikes. Not sure if the 750s ever had the auto signals, but I am pretty sure that the 650 and smaller bikes did not.

Your #3 has a 12-pin connector because it has to switch the lights and the third phase of the stator.

Your #1 has two plugs, probably to handle the extra wires for the signal control unit.

Your #2 just has enough wires to control the signals, high beam and horn.

Hope that helps a bit with your selection process.

Style 1 is for auto turn signals. The other types won't work on your bike.

The 850, 1000G and 1100 used the same type control so that may help you expand your search.
