Tire brand for 1981 GS650G touring
Any recommendations for touring tire brands for 1981 GS650G?

First of all,
There are many tires out there for the sport or sport/touring crowd, and any of them would actually work quite well for you, but may not last as long. Since you are mentioning "touring", check the Dunlop E3. Not sure if they have one in a 17" rear tire, but they should last nearly forever. Yeah, they are expensive, but I have gotten 21-23,000 miles on each of three sets on my Wing.
It used to be that the Cheng Shin Hi-Max was a good buy, but they are not made any more. You might look at the Shinko Roadmaster 230 as a replacement.

Greetings and Salutations!!
Hi Mr. Daryl Christianson,
Personally, I like the Bridgestone Spitfire S-11 tires. They get good wear and are OK in the twisties, but not a sport tire.

The Dunlop E3 doesn't come in 17 rears, alas.
I love, use, and recommend Avon RoadRiders. Lots of other people have tried them and like them as well.
But does Avon send me any free tires to abuse?1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
2005 KLR685, Aztec Pink - Turd II.3, the ReReReTurdening

I know that they were not available earlier, just hadn't checked to see if they had started making them.
There is also the chance that Darryl forgot the L when he said 850G

No, because they know you are just going to abuse them.sigpic
