    which regulator you guys using

I've noticed there are quite a few members on here who are using different regulators than what came stock on their GS's.... I've read the list that was made, but I'm not sure where to start looking to find some, so, I'm just putting the question out there as to anybody who has replaced their r/r, which unit did you use, what kind of bike does it fit, how do you guys like them, etc?

You can get one from duaneage, a member on this forum. Send him a PM for availability. I've got a Ricks brand R/R on my GS. You can also go with a newer FET style R/R. There are lots of threads on here about upgrading your R/R, try doing a search.

Look at the list that you have and use the SHXXX numbers and to be mostly sure, only purchase one that is in bold. Seems like most of the SH538 and/or SH541 will work for us.. I take this list with me and only buy r/r's that are know to work on our GS models. My latest r/r purchase cost me $10 at a swap meet. The guy didn't really know what he had. I changed the connector and hooked it up. Works nice.

          Hi,

Yes, I also recommend sending member duaneage a PM to see if he has any in stock. He tests and modifies the connections on heavy-duty Honda r/r units so that they are true bolt-on replacements, for about $40. He stands behind his parts too. Otherwise you can take your chances on a cheap replacement from ebay, perhaps from a later model GSX-R or similar, and modify the connections yourself. It's not hard.

You could also spend about $100 for a new aftermarket unit from Electrosport, Rick's, or RM Stator.

          Thank you for your indulgence,

          BassCliff

This is the original reference that Matchless started and has maintained.
            • The FH designation if for FET (or MOSFET) based R/R's which are the newer more advanced/efficient designs.
            • The SH designation if for the SCR based older R/R's which date back in various configurations to the early GS units.
            http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ator+reference

I extracted all the FET versions from Matchless's list below.

Honda CBR1000RR 08 Shindengen FH008EB 12V 40 Amp rating (with wire tails and plugs)
            Honda CBR1000RR 08 Shindengen FH014AA 12V 50 Amp rating
            Kawasaki ZX10/14, R1, FJR 05-06 Shindengen FH-010AA 12V 50A rating 14.3V -15.1V
Kawasaki ZX10 2005 Shindengen FH-010BA 12V 50A rating 14.3V -15.1V (mounting holes 3 mm wider than GS, may need bracket)
            Yamaha FJR13 2007 Shindengen FH-012 12V 50 Amps rating 14.5V
            Yamaha FZS10 2007 Shindengen FH-012 12V 50 Amps rating 14.5V
            Yamaha RX1 03 Shindengen FH-001 12V 35 Amps rating 14.1V - 14.9
            Yamaha YZF-R1 02 Shindengen FH-001 12V 35 Amps rating 14.1V - 14.9V
Yamaha YZF-R1 04-06 Shindengen FH-011AA 12V 50 Amps rating (has very tall fins, consider if enough space)
            Yamaha YZF-R1 2007 Shindengen FH-012 12V 50 Amps rating 14.5V
            Yamaha Snowmobile 07/08 Shindengen FH-012AA 12V 50 Amps rating 14.5V

I used the FH012AA as described here. I physically had little room to work with as this particular unit is larges, so I soldered directly to the output spades and have left they bare as it provides a nice check point.

Note: these newer units were developed back in the early 2000's and since about 2006-07 are being used on most all newer stuff.

                SH650A 12 on a 1981 GS1000G

Two years ago I replaced my R/R with the SH650A 12.

Appears to work perfectly. Added a new wet cell battery at the same time and both are doing well. Ride with my headlight on at all times.

Apparently the SH650A 12 comes from a Kawasaki ZX6R from the 90s. Also Yamaha FZ6R used them.

I don't recommend or sell these two versions of the Honda RR. The bolt holes do not line up like the original

As recommended by someone here, i opened up one hole some and now fits nicely. I was aware of the bolt holes not lining up but was not much of a problem drilling out a few mm to make it fit for $10.

                    Good luck with the Phillies.
