I hope you have your registration fixed by now

I mean I'm not with maxhog650, but he and I are fixing this GS together. We split it, $50 each. I think we'll either sell it and split the profit after or one of us will buy the other out. Anyway, as I said we got sparks and dash lights today, a very exciting today. Also we just looked into the carbs a few minutes ago and they are looking CLEAN.

Seems like from here on out we have some timing issues to deal with, a bunch of soldering, reassembly and new tires.

So I thought I would do an official update and throw up some questions. As dawson said, were fixing it up together. we tracked around medusas wires and found a "main" fuse blown. As a temporary solution we skipped it. Not the best decision but its temporary. Just out of curiousity how bad of an idea is this. how often do power surges happen on a big that only gets running time from the shed to outside, should i definantly not ride like this.
Anyway, i guess thats not a pressing issue. The good news is after we jumped the fuze the lights jumped to life and the starter started turning and we even got some sparks. The question is, isthere an easy way to adjust the timing or does this take some tools, I wasnt getting spark on 2 and 4 because the contacts weren't...contacting, but now that i moved it in whats the chance its contacting to early.

Presuming you are asking about posting more than one picture at a time?

If you are using Photobucket, you click on the IMG line and copy it, then paste it in your message. You can do up to four at a time that way.
By the way, that's a limit of four images, total. Smilies count as images, too.

Considering your Medusas loom; I would probably wire in a 15 amp fuse just in case. I think you can use a test light on the coils. You shoudl e on the mark when the light goes off (note test light off not timing light).

The main fuse on my '82 gs750t kept blowing when I was initially trying to get it running. It turned out that it would pop every time I realized that it wasn't starting because the kill switch was off, then turned it on before the engine completely stopped cranking. Just a weird little gremlin that you might want to be aware of. It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure that one out.

Thanks PCH, I bet i would have run into that when the engine strated moving. Is the main fuse on this bike really only 15? Also, I dont have a fuze box, as it came the bike only had one "main" inline fuse. ? how many should I Have? or is this right?

Does anyone have any input on the reset timing switch, I have a hunch this will be an issue but obviously my hunch is based on...just about nothing

Yep, 15 amps is correct. One fuse is also correct. The early bikes, up through about '79, only had one fuse. Some of the '79s might have had a secondary box with another four fuses, most of the '80 and up bikes have a fuse box with 5 fuses. The MAIN fuse is still 15 amps, though.
