Dual Sport Tyres (Tires) on GS Spoke Rims

    Has anyone done it?

How did it work out for you?

What Tyres did you use? I checked out Avon's but they look like they won't go on the GS rim sizes.

I have a loose idea in my head of making a GS Scrambler style dual sport bike to take to Death Valley etc...

So you don't think I'm crazy...

There are several customs following along the Triumph scrambler route about....

Of course this would be another favoured option... 90's Tiger but I'd have to spend real money for that I guess.

I think you could mount up a set of Avon Distanzia, they are available in sizes that fit my bike. They are not the most aggressive tread but should work okay on trails. I think Bwringer is running them on his Vx800.

There are other tires that should fit. What size wheels are you using?

I didn't like the Kenda 270 that are on the rear of that Yamaha pictured, did great offroad but felt real squirrelly on. This was on my dual sport of course.

Distanzia are the ones I looked at... They don't do a narrow enough tyre.

      The GS rims are 1.85" x 19 front & 2.15" x 18" rear.

Can you squeeze a 100/90-19 on the 1.85? Distanzia come in that size.

        In the 90/100 x 19 you could fit a Bridgestone Trailwing TW39.

If these won't fit, how about a 70/100-19 Dunlop D739? It looks like a strictly off road knobby but I won't tell anyone you are running it on the road. Most Pirelli offroad front tires used to be DOT rated, may want to check them for fitment also.

BTW pulled these from http://www.tiresunlimited.com/ALL%20...unlop_d739.htm .

That is a great looking Yamaha, it is a lot better suited for off road use that a GS, in stock form it was pretty much just an overweight enduro with a low pipe, handled well on dirt. Frame geometry or whatever it was, it worked well. Much better than any GS IMHO. Abused the Heck out of my '72 on the dirt back then.

Yes nice looking... I'm looking to make something more like a Triumph scrambler. I have most of the parts I think just need the base bike to build it on....
