    78 GS 750 Lighting Question

I own a 78 GS 750, are the indicator lights suppose to stay on as Marker lights? I notice a lot of newer bikes, the front indicator lights stay on. I bought the bike a few months ago and am not sure if they are suppose to stay on. The turn signals work, but no light when I turn the indicator off. Please let me know as I may have an electrical problem if so.

    Thank you in advance

No, they only come on as signals, no running lights..

Agreed. The signal lights only come on when you signal. I do love the fact that on these bikes you can manually turn the headlight on/off.

Can we rewire as running lights?

Bummer, some state inspector or such had the headlight switch on mine perma-closed so that headlights are always on.

I always thought that the electrical issues on these bikes were due to too little power coming from the stator, but reading this thread, it seems that we have more than enough power.

Is there any reason not to wire the signal lights up as running-lights?

I'll bet you have an '80 or '81 GS Whatever.

State inspector had nothing to do with that, you can thank the Suzuki factory. The laws are different from one country to another, so rather than re-design the entire switch housing for the US market, they simply installed a block-off plate. That way, they were able to use up their current inventory of parts until they could re-design the switch to work with all of their intended markets.

If you want to have an operating headlight switch, it is very easy to remove the plate to restore operation.

Go ahead and wire it for the running lights. I wired my 82 850 for them and they workwd fine. I liked having the extra visability at night.
