    need help with a starter clutch job

    83 1100E
    my starter clutch went up, so I did a search and found a thread about it so I pulled the stater case, removed the first nut of the crank. and I am trying to remove the female side of the stater. I tryed a gear puller. that started to strip out so then I tryed some heat and in the process i cracked two of the mags inside, I beat on the thing for about a hour with a hammer and a peice of wood. and still nothing I havent tryed the slide hammer style of removing but what iv read about it I dont understand becuse the axle nut fits on the crank not the female part of the stater??? any help would be great thanks

    You can use the swing arm bolt to get the assembly off.
    This is how I did it.
    I put a small diameter bolt and washer down the centre of the assembly into the hole on the crankshaft, I then wound the swing arm bolt down on to the small bolt while stopping the assembly from moving, I used my leather belt.
    It sounds easy but it wasn’t.

      So does the female part of the stater twist off? If so lefty loosey??

        The part with the magnets is "taperlocked" on to the crankshaft, not threaded.

          You have just wrecked your stator rotor & now will need to be replacing the starter clutch/rotor assembly because you didn't use the CORRECT puller that is made for doing this exact job! I don't mean to sound harsh but next time come here & ask before you try something you are unfamiliar with & we will tell you the best & cheapest procedures for doing things. If you go looking for a puller make sure you get the one for the 1150 as there are 2 for the 1100 & only one for the 1150. The 1150 puller is correct for an 83 1100 rotor. Call me at 714-356-7845 if you would like some help as I build 1100 & 1150 motors all the time. Ray.
