    Red line on GS1000S

I spotted something the other night while trawling Ebay and checked up on some photos of S rev counters. Some red lines are marked at 8500 rpm and some at 9000 rpm. The S rev counter is unique (as far as I know) to the S.

What red line have you S owners got and is it a SN / ST or US / ROW / Europe thing?

My US spec ST has an 8500 rpm tach but then again it had a 140 mph speedometer on it when I bought it which I know is wrong (should be 85 mph).

If I am correct only the GS550 has the 9500 limit.

OK my 550 has the 9500 rev limit. The engine in general spins faster for any given speed than the larger bikes.

My SN by the way is 9k, Steve has just sent me one at 8.5k and here's an SN set on Ebay off an 80 (but a late registered SN methinks) with 9k.

Maybe Zook just decided to cut back on the red paint

                    re counters

A m8 of mine has two 1980 Gs1000s they both Red line at 8500rpm.
                    Im gettin more confused.
when I checked my Rev counter against my Dyna rev limmiter which is set at 9000rpm
the needle was nearly touching 10,000Rpm Oooooooooooppppps not recomended but
when my Engine was stripped down couple of weeks later everything is ok.
