    Cam shaft replacements for a '80 GS1100E

    Howdy all,

I'm taking the engine apart on my '80 mostly to get the crank welded. Almost have the engine entirely apart, looking good so far, except for that oil pump bolt that had backed all the way out and was being kept in place by the gear... eek.

I have heard that a later model GSXR cam fits into this engine and is good for 20 or 30hp performance gain? Is this true? What fits?

    Thanks all!

Would be surprised if it fits, but if it does, your tach probably won't work, as I think the GSXR's have an electric tach so no tach gear on the cam. The only bolt on that would give an extra 20 or 30 hp would be a turbo or nitrus, certainly not a cam.

Ray can tell you how to fit the GSXR cams.
Another option is the WebCam .340(street) or .348 cams(race). You need to modify the pads on the rockers for the .348s.

Could be 50 if you play your cards right.

Hey, I swear I read something somewhere. At least with this thread, I can find out definitively

Still learning, doubt I will ever know it all, but with your help, well.. I just might make it work, haha.

Thanks Ray, I'll give you a call soon.

May should be a new thread, but what would be a reasonable expectation for a HP increase with only dropping in cams.

there is no reason to do drop in cams with nothing else.
stock air box/stock exhaust/stock vacuum carbs ect....
                    trick question....
if you have a ported head/piston kit/nice mechanical carbs and your running stock cams in there stock location....
then a set of drop in cams degree'd right could be worth 20HP.
                    like i said.
                    this is a trick question.
when a 1100E makes 89 or so HP at the back wheel stock...
do the math/20- 30HP would be a huge increase percentage wise...

What Terry said! If you have an 1100, with a GOOD 4 into 1, pods & a jet kit already, I have seen 10 hp gain at the rear wheel with just a cam change but they were also DEGREED in & the jetting then optimized! Ray.
