    GS1000 Cylinder Head Rubber Dampers

In a moment of weakness I bought a bunch of those over priced rubber damper chunks that fit between the fins on the cylinder head of my 1980 GS1000S. Problem is I don’t know where they are supposed to fit. Can someone with an original 8V GS1000 shoot some photos for me so I know where these buggers go – there are 18 of them.

    Thanks in advance
    Ed

Just looked on five engines... I got nothing.
Guess my bikes are not worthy of your higher standards.
      18 x 5 x how much each?

5 engines, 18 rubber dampeners on each one, that makes 90 of them... times $31.12 ea... equals $2,800.

I guess my bikes will never be up to your standards.

              Actually, I think it's more like 1.74 ea ($31.32 / 18) times 5 = $156.60.

See, you CAN reach Ed's standards...

Feel'n the love on this one.

Since no one around here is helping for $hit (except for Dan), I pulled out the manual and scoured the cylinder head photos in the Engine section. Looks like four dampers in the fins around each spark plug for a total of 16. Where do the extra two go?

As an aside, I'm trying to restore the bike properly within reason, thus my purchase of the dampers. The damper parts as received are gray in color, not the proper black color. Kind of frustrating after spending over $30 for the stupid things. I've found the same issue when purchasing things like bolts and hardware in general; much of the time the new stuff looks different than the original parts. Nothing major but yet another challenge.

Hmmm... I probably could, but I probably won't.
I did notice they are still there on the 1100, I'll just be happy with that.

Man you guys are giving Ed hell!

If I had the money from every "I have to have the correct rubber grommet!" purchase I've made I could buy another bike.

They are inserted in the deep fin recess of 1 & 4. So 1 & 4 actually have 5 each from the factory. Cannot take a pic the GS has moved.

I just went out & looked at my 1100 16V to see if I could guess where the other 2 go... seems most are all gone, no clues there, sorry.

                        Good luck

I thought they went between the fins on the head near the corners.
Some go between the fins between the spark plugs.
Are you referring to the round or rectangular ones.

More importantly, where is the GS? Please tell me you didn't sell it.

I found the FJ dampers worked by accident after a shop hot tanked my 1000 head and everyone of those dried out buggers were lost. The shop was also in the business of installing FJ12 engines in dirt cars and the owner made the connection; he pulled the dampers from a remanufactured FJ12 and they worked perfectly in the GS1000 head.
