GS1000 Cylinder Head Rubber Dampers

Here shot that shows some dampers on the top fins, they're mounted at the top of the fins about mid way between them. If you look real close behind plug #3 you'll see there are some there also. I'm missing some but in the next couple days if you want I could see if I can get a better shot of the ones I've got left. I'm missing some also but there are small corrosion marks where they used to be.

Alright... I give... what the heck are they even for? I found some stuck in my head, I assumed they were supposed to go there but I can't fathom why. Vibration of the fins snap them off or something?

Just took a look at my Skunk... I am missing quite a few but there are definitely 9 possible slots per side. 5 at the back & 4 at the front. That would seem to line up with what you're saying. On mine they are fitted about 5mm below the top & about 8mm back.
Unless your big port head is a bit different & only has 8 slots???1980 GS1000G - Sold

It's four on the outside and five inside just as srsupertrap said, so the mystery is solved. Installed the plugs on the outside cylinders but didn't feel like pulling the valve cover so the inside plugs with have to wait.Ed
