GS1000 Cylinder Head Rubber Dampers
In a moment of weakness I bought a bunch of those over priced rubber damper chunks that fit between the fins on the cylinder head of my 1980 GS1000S. Problem is I don’t know where they are supposed to fit. Can someone with an original 8V GS1000 shoot some photos for me so I know where these buggers go – there are 18 of them.
Thanks in advanceEd

Actually, I think it's more like 1.74 ea ($31.32 / 18) times 5 = $156.60.

Feel'n the love on this one.
Since no one around here is helping for $hit (except for Dan), I pulled out the manual and scoured the cylinder head photos in the Engine section. Looks like four dampers in the fins around each spark plug for a total of 16. Where do the extra two go?
As an aside, I'm trying to restore the bike properly within reason, thus my purchase of the dampers. The damper parts as received are gray in color, not the proper black color. Kind of frustrating after spending over $30 for the stupid things. I've found the same issue when purchasing things like bolts and hardware in general; much of the time the new stuff looks different than the original parts. Nothing major but yet another challenge.Last edited by Nessism; 11-03-2009, 09:48 PM.Ed

I did notice they are still there on the 1100, I'll just be happy with that.

Man you guys are giving Ed hell!
If I had the money from every "I have to have the correct rubber grommet!" purchase I've made I could buy another bike.

I thought they went between the fins on the head near the corners.
Some go between the fins between the spark plugs.
Are you referring to the round or rectangular ones.Last edited by chef1366; 11-03-2009, 11:53 PM.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
