Fuel problems on 1980 GS 1000

I am having problems with my bike getting fuel. I believe it has something to do with the vaccum on the petcock. I replaced the hoses coming off the petcock, but am still having problems. Does anyone have any experience with this? The bike is a 1980 GS 1000.

Well, the petcock is certainly high on the list of suspects. Put a good vac line on it and suck on it with your mouth to see how much fuel flow you get. See how quickly the gas drains out into a jar. If the gas just sorta dribbles out, then you know what your problem is. The general consensus around here is that rebuild kits are not reliable.

Try to avoid in-line filters too. If your tank is so rusty that you need another filter, fix the tank. Make sure the fuel line doesn't have any uphill runs on the way to the carbs too. Air bubbles get trapped in high spots and mess up flow. Cna't think of anything else just now.
