    83 750e airbox

    Recently aquired an 83 750e. But it has no airbox. Can I make the airbox from my 81 850g work? Would it have the same amount of resistance? I've checked the salvage yards in the area and there hasn't been anything. Any ideas would be amazingly helpful. Also the stock main jets on this bike are 117.5 I think. If I went with pods what kind of jets should I start with considering I have a kerky 4 into 1 on it. Any help would be awesome

    Going with pods and pipes, I think you would have the best luck with a Dynojet Stage 3 kit.

      The stock airbox on these were terrible, I've had pods on mine since '85. Even if you were to find a stock one you would have to pull the motor out of the frame to get the airbox in.

        yeah i found that out last night. whoever designed the airbox should have at least seem the frame before he started.i have a friend whos gonna give me a set of pods. right now i have a set of velocity stacks that have foam filter material in them. they have much more restriction than a set of pods so we will see what they do to it. about how much does a dynojet stage 3 cost? thank you for your help

          ok nm just looked up the pricing and there is no way i can afford that right now anyone have a similar setup as i will be running to give me an idea of jetting? 83 750e. kerky 4 into 1 and pods. coil relay mod. all else stock.

            Well, the jets are easy and cheap enough, but it's the Dynojet needles that make the kit worth the big bucks. Shimming the stock needles should help, but the DJ needles have a better taper, which is what you really need.

            Depending on the flow of your pods and pipe, around six sizes up on the mains might be close. If you have 117.5 jets as stock, 132.5 would be a respectable starting point. Just be prepared to pull the carbs multiple times before you get the jetting right. Pilot fuel jets might be OK, might have to go up one size, turn the idle mixture screws out about 3 turns from lightly seated.

              *sigh* the 100 or so bucks for the jet kit is well worth the expense. The needles are indeed the difference maker and no amount of shimming the stockers is going to make it run correctly ( a term which seems to be quite subjective to some). If you don't believe me I'd be happy to share my sad tales of most of four months being toyed with and mocked by my carburetors
              while attempting to rejet the CVs by hand. It's an effort in futility and only serves to waste your time as it did mine. In turn I wasted other peoples
              time by asking repetitive questions only to be met with the same answer: buy. The. Jet. Kit.

              The tapper of the jet kits needles are specifficly designed to
              make the bike run propperly with pods/pipe combos. Try doing it by hand and you will have flat spots and the lean staggers all over the rev range, especially the ones you spend the majority of your time in. Took me four months of bein a hard headed ass to learn, but with the jet kit you install it as per the instructions and you're pretty much done.

                  I completely understand the value of the dj kit. And I wish I had the funds to get it. But seeing as I cannot afford my rent. Cell. And car payment/ insurance I can't justify the cost. But I don't plan on riding this till spring so I have time to work on her.
